How many times have you caught yourself looking at your reflection in the mirror and thought about one of those police shows where they have a one-way mirror, with a mirror on one side and glass on the other? There probably aren’t police officers standing on the other side of your mirror, watching you, but there is a chance that there is a camera behind it.

With the world the way it is, there are some people out there who set up secret cameras to film other people.

This could be to make money from the footage or just for security reasons. If you are worried about hidden cameras, then we have researched the topic to help you spot them.

Let’s look at how to spot a hidden camera behind a mirror and in other places.

Hidden Cameras

The mirror probably looks pretty ordinary, right? Well, it could be a one-way mirror, and there could be a camera on the other side. So, how can you know?

Well, you can never know for sure if you are being filmed, but there is a way to tell if the mirror is a little suspect.

Place your fingernail against the mirror and look at the reflection. Is there a gap between your fingernail and its reflection? If there is, then the mirror is legit. If there is no gap, then there is something up with the mirror, and there could be something on the other side.

Hidden Cameras

If you find yourself in a room and suspect that there could be a hidden camera in there with you, then there are some steps you can take to discover the hidden camera. The first step is to scan the area and look for the camera.

Common places to hide a hidden camera include smoke detectors, air filters, books, wall hangings, electrical outlets, plants, boxes, stuffed toys, DVD cases, lamps, cushions, and more. This list is not extensive so you cannot rule anything out.

Take a look at the items and look for anything suspicious. Strange wires, light reflecting from lenses, or blinking lights could indicate a camera. Listen for any weird noises coming from inside of something. If something does not look right, then investigate it.

Night Vision Cameras

Night vision cameras are becoming more and more common. Thankfully, there is a way for you to spot them.

Night vision cameras use LEDs to illuminate the picture feed. Most of the cameras will have red or green LEDs. When the light levels are low, the LEDs will come on. Turn off the lights in the room and look for light coming from elsewhere.

The light will be faint so allow your eyes to accustom themselves to the room and then scan it.

Hidden Frequencies

Some hidden cameras give off frequencies. The best way to detect this is to make a phone call. Grab your cell phone and call anyone. They just need to be able to stay on the line while you sweep the room.

Walk around the room, talking on the phone and, if you notice any interference with the signal, then it could be an indication that there is a hidden camera close by.

There are also apps which you can download to your smart device which will pick up those hidden frequencies.

Use A Detector

One sure fire way to detect if there is a hidden camera in your room is to buy a detector or to hire a professional. Using a detector is one of the best ways to find out if you are being watched by a hidden device. Unfortunately, it can be one of the more expensive products to use.

Use A Flashlight

Just because you turned off the lights and could not see any sign of a camera, that does not mean that there is not one. Go one step further and sweep the room with a flashlight.

Turn off the lights and turn on your flashlight. Point the light all around the room and look for reflections. Change your angle too so that you are sweeping the room from all angles.

If you see a reflection, then it could be a lens, and you should investigate further.

There are many reasons for someone to want to use surveillance on you, but that does not mean that you should let them. Use our guide and find out if someone is watching you. If you do find a camera, then make sure that you are not in view of it and contact local law enforcement.
